Story line was very believable - as though it were a movie with Cary Grant. Lots of editing faux pas... like the address of Christine Drayton (changed many times). The supporting characters need a little more work to be fully developed. Regardless, it was fun to read.

Disclaimer The author has become a friend, but I just wouldn't review this if I hadn't enjoyed it. I think this book is charming and heartfelt, and will especially please fans of old movies (which includes me) as well as fans of old New York. I loved the way the plot makes us build a comparison between Cary Grant the dreamy matinee idol and Cary Grant the man who repeatedly divorced, and between Katherine Hepburn's iconic characters and Katherine Hepburn the woman. I liked that the heroine eventually has to choose between a fantasy version of life and something far more complicated, but more substantial. I LOVED the discussion of The Philadelphia Story (and totally agreed with it!). I liked that the obnoxious villain zagged when I expected him to zig. I even managed to tear up towards the end. I do think the author could sometimes stand to pare down her (very good) dialogue to keep the pace moving (though old classic movies are, of course, bursting with clever, rapid-fire dialogue). I was also a little flummoxed by some characters' names for awhile -- but perhaps moving the explanation up sooner would have ruined some of the fun. If you'd like some romantic comedy and suspense that plays with the contrast between the old movies, reality, and even reality TV, this is definitely the book for you.
I thought this was a sweet story. It was both contemporary but had touches of "old movies" romance and atmosphere. I totally enjoyed every minute I was reading this story. Very cute and funny.
Emelle Gamble is a great author...I only didn't give it 5 stars because it wasn't my kind of romance, but she certainly did
do a lot of research and if you love old romance movies, this book is for you! Enjoy.
This book surprised me in a good way. I admit that I expected more of a standard chick lit offering and instead it gave me believable, relatable characters and a decent plot. The relationship problems between Tracy and Mike were interesting and complex. The side characters were also interesting, though I would have liked to see their stories a bit more fleshed out. The ending was satisfying. Adding Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn (yes, she's in here too) was different and gave the book a fun twist. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes an adult romance that offers more than just romance.
The author twined a good story with a great narrative. You got to know the main character and her friends. You want to welcome them into your life and invite them to a dinner party. Without giving away much, this story is one which you are not sure about how it will end until the last page. Great cozy read!
Written with the languorous pace of an older era, Dating Cary Grant is a sweet contemporary story of coming to terms with dreams and second chances. I enjoyed the twists the story takes, along with the ghostly flourishes that kept my attention. If you enjoy slower paced stories that feature cinematic personalities, you'll like this book.
Great story to read every Christmas. Christmas miracles are always a great read. Good clean reading. Loved Cary and Katherine in the book.
